Jewel Changi Airport

Redefining the airport experience

The Project

A world-class iconic destination with its various attractions and retail offerings, Jewel establishes a new paradigm for community-centric airport design. Located in the heart of Changi Airport and connecting all terminals, Jewel features a precisely engineered glass and steel dome-shaped roof that presents an impressive view of the complex.

The glass roof is a distinctive glass covered dome-shaped roof and features an oculus that serves as a water feature.

The Challenge

To achieve the continuous diagrid steel structure of Jewel, more than 9,000 pieces of glass panels, about 18,000 pieces of steel beams and over 6,000 steel nodes were used to create the facade. The facade which weighs more than 6,000 tonnes is supported by a ring of 12m tall tree-like columns and a ring beam at the edge of the roof.
